Chapter 1737 — Setting Off

The Blossom Guardian

When the bundle was opened, it turned out to be packed full of premium cigarettes and fine liquor — easily worth a hundred thousand yuan or more.

Wei Zhao was a doctor; it was easy enough for him to tell whether the woman was truly pregnant. Since he had confirmed she was not, there was no reason to indulge her.

"So it was fake all along! She had a bundle stuffed in her belly!" the onlookers said, the truth dawning on them.

"That's right — this woman was carrying a belly full of fine liquor and expensive cigarettes. That's impressive, really. Whoever takes a wife like that is going to strike it rich!" another onlooker said, laughing.

"After you, then — come along with us to the security office!" Seeing the situation, the security captain was no longer afraid. If the pregnancy was fake, then there was no problem at all.

But just as everyone was raising a ruckus, the man who had called himself the pregnant woman's husband had vanished.

When the security captain wanted to invite him along to the security office as well, he found that the man had slipped away at some point.

Wei Zhao saw him go, but did not try to stop him. He had already done more than enough.

The group paid their bill and went to the parking lot, loaded their purchases into the car, and had just shut the door when several men surrounded them. The lot was open-air, with no surveillance cameras, so these men seemed to have no scruples at all.

"So, gentlemen — you play the hero, you do your good deed, and now you think you'll just walk away?" The leader of the group was none other than the scar-faced man who had claimed to be the woman's husband, and behind him followed two thugs who clearly meant trouble.

In numbers, Wei Zhao's side had two men and three women, five in all, which seemed an advantage — but in fact, Scarface had two burly men with him, both plainly bigger and stronger than Wei Zhao and Wu Chengtian.

"And if we don't leave, is there a reward?" Wei Zhao asked.

"A reward? Dream on. You wrecked my business, and you want a reward?" Scarface gave a cold laugh and dropped the joking manner. "A Land Rover Discovery 4, an Audi S5 — not bad, you've got money. Because of today's little stunt, my boys are out a hundred grand or more, and one of my boys' wives got hauled off too. Don't you think you owe my boys some compensation?"

"Your own wife faked a pregnancy to steal, and you want compensation? How can a man be this thick?" Shen Yushu said. "Arrow Brand, don't waste your breath on him. Let's go home!"

"Fair enough. Let's go," Wei Zhao said with a shrug, turning to get into the car.

"Kid, you think I'm joking with you? Get in the car? I'm telling you, the car stays. After today, unless you put down two hundred — no, five hundred thousand, you're not driving it out of here!" Scarface said, then threw a look at one of the burly men. "Show them what we're about!"

"Right!" the man answered, then grinned and produced a brick from behind his back. "Kid, you've seen too little of the world — you don't know how high the heavens are."

With that, he took the brick in his left hand and slammed his right fist into it. With a thunderous crack, the brick shattered to pieces.

"Kid, before you walk off, weigh it up: is your skull harder, or the brick?" The man who had smashed the brick dusted the powder from his hands and spoke with great self-satisfaction.

"Arrow Brand, is this fellow a street performer? He reminds me of those men who break rocks on their chests," Shen Yushu asked, puzzled.

"Seems like it. Otherwise, who carries a brick around for no reason?" Wei Zhao nodded.

"Oh, then here's ten yuan for you — you poor thing, working so hard, performing all this time!" Shen Yushu said, fishing ten yuan from her pocket and offering it to the man.

"I don't think you people know how high the heavens are," the man said, his face darkening at her words. He really had started out as a street performer; Shen Yushu had hit the mark, and he could not keep his composure.

"Wu Chengtian, tell him whose fist is harder," Wei Zhao said, glancing at Wu Chengtian.

"Right away, boss!" Wu Chengtian had been itching to move for a while, but without Wei Zhao's word he hadn't dared act on his own. Now that Wei Zhao had spoken, he leapt out at once, walked to the triangular iron cone beside the parking space, raised his fist, and brought it down. In an instant, the solid iron cone was flattened into an iron pancake under Wu Chengtian's fist.

Afterward, Wu Chengtian shook the dust from his hand and said, "Damn — you want to show off in front of my boss? Weigh it up first: is your skull harder, or this iron cone?"

"Gah?" The burly man and Scarface were dumbstruck. They had never imagined they would run into such a hard case today. Their man could only smash a brick; this man had flattened solid iron into a pancake. The difference in strength was plain at a glance.

"If you don't want to die, get lost. What a bunch of trash," Wu Chengtian snorted, and returned to Wei Zhao's side.

"Let's go," Wei Zhao said, paying Scarface no further attention, and got into the Land Rover, while Wu Chengtian got into Gu Mengyao's Audi S5 — except that Tang Yun, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu all sat in Wei Zhao's car.

The two cars roared off past Scarface, leaving him standing there, staring at the iron pancake on the ground in disbelief.

"Scarface, it looks real. This iron block really was smashed into a pancake..." the burly man said, staring at it in horror.

"Of course it's real, I know it's real!" Scarface snarled. "If it weren't real, do you think I'd have let them leave?"

"Then what do we do now..." the man asked cautiously.

"Damn it — a bad start. Get back and figure out how to explain this to Brother De. He sent us out here to make money, and we made none; instead one of ours got caught in the supermarket, and now we've been run off here too!" Scarface said, vexed.

Wei Zhao did not take this little incident to heart. After returning to the villa, everyone got busy, sorting the purchases and daily necessities into categories and packing them up — most to be mailed back in advance, with only a small portion to be carried along in the car.
