Chapter 644 — Wei Zhao Faints: "Really?" Wei Zhao Looked Unconvinced: "There Is Nothing Wrong With the Glass, Is There?"

The Blossom Guardian

"I say, Brother Wei Zhao, you really are cautious!" An Jianwen shook his head with a smile. "But so be it. If you think there is something wrong with the glass, let us swap. You use my glass and I will use yours? No need to swap at all. I will just drink this glass of yours. How about that?"

"Very well..." As he spoke, Wei Zhao rose with his wine glass in hand and walked to stand before An Jianwen. Leaning down, he let his empty hand rest on An Jianwen's shoulder, as if afraid he might lose his footing and fall. After studying the glass before An Jianwen closely for a good while, he exchanged the glass in his own hand for An Jianwen's, then returned to his seat.

"Brother Wei Zhao, what you are doing really wounds your brother's pride. I meant you no harm, yet this is how you think of me. Enough talk. I will drink first as a mark of respect!" An Jianwen picked up the glass Wei Zhao had just swapped over and drained it in one gulp.

In truth, An Jianwen had put the knockout drug into the bottle, but he had taken the antidote beforehand, so the drug in the wine had no effect on him.

"It seems I was being overly careful." Wei Zhao gave a self-mocking smile, then reached out to lift his glass. Between two of his fingers, however, there was now something like a small pill, poured from a little bottle he had just slipped out of An Jianwen's pocket.

Wei Zhao first licked the pill between his fingers, and once he was certain it was indeed the antidote, he used the act of drinking to send the antidote into his mouth along with the wine.

That saved Wei Zhao a great deal of effort. With the antidote in hand, he no longer had to think of other measures. Otherwise he might have had to drink while secretly sticking needles into himself.

He had no antidote of his own, but silver needles were something Wei Zhao always carried with him.

Seeing that Wei Zhao was finally willing to drink, An Jianwen sneered inwardly. You may be cunning, but you never expected that I have learned to be clever. I did not drug your glass alone. I drugged it all, only I took the antidote in advance!

"Brother Wei Zhao, as you know, I am fond of Gu Mengyao, so I will say no more about that. I invited you here today because I want a straight answer from you. What exactly is your relationship with Gu Mengyao?" Although An Jianwen had already decided to deal with Wei Zhao, he still wanted to pin down what stood between Wei Zhao and Gu Mengyao.

"Ha, I told you before. She is my employer." Wei Zhao said flatly.

"Then why did Shen Yushu say yesterday that Yaoyao and you..." Hearing Wei Zhao deny it, An Jianwen was at once displeased. Although Gu Mengyao had neither confirmed nor denied Shen Yushu's words yesterday, in An Jianwen's eyes the affair between Wei Zhao and Gu Mengyao was all but certain.

"That has always been her temperament. You do not know that?" Wei Zhao shrugged and asked in return.

"Is that so? It seems Brother Wei Zhao still treats me as an outsider and will not tell me the truth!" Hearing Wei Zhao refuse to admit it, An Jianwen grew even more irritated. "I am not an unreasonable man. If there really is something between you and Gu Mengyao, as long as Gu Mengyao is willing, then I will give you my blessing!"

"Then thank you. At least for now there is nothing. Whether there will be in the future, I do not know." Wei Zhao saw no need to lie to An Jianwen.

"Ha, forget it. Let us drink!" An Jianwen raised his glass again.

Wei Zhao clinked glasses with him and then drained his own in one gulp. Judging that about enough time had passed and the drug should soon take effect, Wei Zhao pressed a hand to his forehead. "Brother An, this wine is going to my head. Why am I feeling a little dizzy?"

"That cannot be. Is this not the same Lafite we drank yesterday? How could it go to your head?" The moment An Jianwen saw Wei Zhao like that, he knew the drug had taken hold, and he was overjoyed inwardly, though outwardly he put on a puzzled look as he spoke.

At this moment An Jianwen dearly wanted to point at Wei Zhao and gloat to his heart's content. So you would feather your own nest, would you? So you would fight me over Gu Mengyao? I am going to cut out your kidney and see how you fight me then! But An Jianwen did not dare. He knew Wei Zhao's skill, at the very least that of a Huang-level expert, and he feared that in the instant before losing consciousness Wei Zhao might suddenly lash out at him. That would be more loss than gain.

"But I really do feel dizzy..." Wei Zhao had barely finished speaking when he collapsed onto the table.

Wei Zhao was well versed in pharmacology, so the symptoms of being drugged were perfectly familiar to him. His act now gave An Jianwen nothing to catch hold of. Besides, since An Jianwen had drugged the wine himself, it never occurred to him that Wei Zhao might be feigning unconsciousness.

Seeing Wei Zhao passed out, An Jianwen was instantly delighted. He took out his phone and called the tattooed man who had long been waiting near the private room.

"Come in. He is already out. Help me get him out of here!" An Jianwen gave a single order into the phone and hung up.

Before long, the tattooed man pushed open the door and entered the room. "Brother Wen, is it done?"

"Mm, it is done. Help me get him out." An Jianwen stood up and pointed at Wei Zhao, who lay slumped across the table opposite him.

The tattooed man nodded, and together, one on each side, he and An Jianwen propped Wei Zhao up and left the room.

Although guests and waiters came and went in great numbers in the hotel, no one paid any attention to An Jianwen and the tattooed man. After all, drunks were everywhere here, helped out by friends, dragged out, carried out in every manner imaginable. No one cared whether Wei Zhao had fainted or merely drunk himself senseless.

"Wei Zhao, you never expected this, did you? Cross me, and I will let you taste what it is like to lose a kidney!" Once in the car, An Jianwen shot a vicious glance at Wei Zhao on the back seat.

"Brother Wen, if we cut out his kidney, will there not be trouble? Once he knows what we did, will he not call the police?" The tattooed man asked with some unease. After all, Wei Zhao knew An Jianwen, and if he woke up missing a kidney, An Jianwen would be the first man he suspected.

"No. This kid is no saint either. He has lives on his hands, so he cannot possibly go to the police!" An Jianwen did not believe Wei Zhao would report them, because Li Cihua had said that two Huang-level experts under him had already fallen to Wei Zhao. "Besides, if he asks, we will say he got drunk and we left him at the hotel. As for who cut out his kidney, he will have no proof!"

The tattooed man nodded. Since An Jianwen said there would be no trouble, he would make no more fuss about it. He started the car and drove toward headquarters.

Wei Zhao stayed awake the whole time, listening to the conversation between An Jianwen and the tattooed man. An Jianwen was indeed connected to the kidney-harvesting ring, and An Jianwen's plan to seize him suited Wei Zhao's wishes even better!
