Chapter 177 — Light Slumber
Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2
The maid's scream instantly rang through the entire floor, and could even be heard clearly from the rooms one floor below. The three people gathered in Gao Yang's room were instantly interrupted by the scream, and they could hear the immense terror in it.
The three exchanged a glance and rushed out the door in unison.
Servants on night duty had already been startled by the noise. Male and female servants came running out from every corner, and in an instant the corridors were full of moving figures. By the time Gao Yang and the others reached the castle's third floor, quite a crowd had already gathered there.
The maid who had screamed lay on the ground, but she had no external injuries—she had merely fainted from excessive fright and quickly woke after a basin of cold water was splashed on her. Then she began shouting in fragmented, nearly deranged sentences: "The butler's been possessed by a demon," "he's covered in blood," "he came out of the master's study."
Hearing the maid's fragmented shouting, Gao Yang felt a jolt in his heart, and a few sudden thoughts surfaced in his mind. At the same time he strode forward and looked at the terrified girl: "Which way did the butler go?"
"Th—that way!" The maid pointed toward the end of the corridor, where an open window swung violently in the wind and rain. "He cast a terrible spell on me, and then flew out like a ghost!"
"A spell?" Gao Yang glanced down at the maid but saw no trace of spell damage on her. He had no time to ponder this further, however, and turned to Amber: "You go after him. If you find him, don't engage—come back and report at once!"
Amber was already running toward the window before Gao Yang finished speaking, her figure fading as she ran. Her voice came from the air: "Chasing someone out in a downpour like this better count toward my bonus..."
A dim shadow plunged into the rainy night, while Gao Yang turned and strode swiftly toward the study not far away.
Viscount Victor Kant sat bolt upright in the tall high-backed chair, a sharp knife buried in his chest, and the sprayed blood had already dyed the desk before him red.
Several servants who had followed Gao Yang gasped in shock at the sight.
Philip and Gao Cen stepped forward together. The young knight murmured the name of the God of War as he placed his hand between the old viscount's nose and mouth, and the next second he cried out in alarm: "He's still breathing!"
Gao Yang also noticed the position of the dagger then: the old viscount truly had remarkable luck—though the knife had gone in at a perilous spot, it seemed to have been stopped by a rib and had not pierced the heart!
He had fainted from excessive blood loss now, but if this dragged on even a little longer, it would be far less simple than that.
Gao Yang immediately fished out the special healing potion Piyun had prepared from his bosom and activated the knight's skill "Blood Inspiration" to temporarily overdraft and sustain the old viscount's life, while saying: "Go summon healers! Holy Light priests or druids will do!"
