The Dragon Qilin said fawningly, "Chief, I rendered great service this time—so about the meals..."
Shen Mu ignored it and went to the great deer. The deer was far worse off than the Dragon Qilin—more than twice as many flying swords were stuck in its body, and it had been rubbing itself in the Dragon Qilin's spittle.
Shen Mu shook his head. First he set the great deer's bones, then fetched over a dozen bottles of dragon spittle to stanch the bleeding, and only then pulled out the flying swords one by one.
Wang Muran, much recovered, ran over, picked up the antlers, and stuck them back on the great deer's head.
"Little master, the antlers are on backward," the great deer reminded him.
"Oh!" Wang Muran hastily pulled them out, bringing a spray of blood. The great deer cried out in pain. Wang Muran hurriedly reversed the antlers, pushed them back in, and begged a bottle of dragon spittle from Shen Mu to sprinkle over the wounds.
Shen Mu went on treating the other flood dragons as well. After bustling about for a long while, suddenly the sky outside turned a blinding white, then plunged into a murky darkness, and then brightened once again.
Everyone rushed to look outside. The torrential rain had ceased abruptly, and a perfectly straight rift had opened in the sky, as if a giant sword had split the heavens in two!
"What is this..." Shen Mu's heart shook violently, and he murmured, "The Sun-Shooting Divine Cannon..."
From the riven sky, red streaks suddenly began to fall. Shen Mu raised a hand to catch one—then his face changed dramatically and he flung himself aside.
The red streaks pattered down before the palace. Wherever they landed, flowers burst into bloom across the hills and fields, and grass and trees shot up wildly.
Divine blood fell from heaven, like the bitter weeping of the sky above.
A god had fallen.
