Chapter 3452 — Bai Weituo Gets into Trouble (2)
Bai Weituo had not wanted to go in the first place, but he could not withstand the two of them working on him without pause. If he refused, he would have nothing he could do anyway—he could not even manage a private moment with He Meiyue. The pair clung to their room like sticking plaster, dragging them off here and there every single day, or else keeping them up late over midnight snacks and card games, never leaving Bai Weituo the slightest opening.
In truth, Bai Weituo understood their meaning and their thinking well enough; it was simply that no one said it aloud. It was all tacitly understood, and there was little he could say about such a matter. Since they had come along, this situation had been unavoidable.
That was why Bai Weituo had agreed to go and have a look at the casino. The advantage, after all, was that Zhang Duopan would be footing the bill.
Bai Weituo was a poor student, and Bai the ringleader would not give him much pocket money either, so having a big spender like Zhang Duopan pick up the tab was something he was quite happy to see.
The Youmiao Casino was one of the larger casinos in the area. It had only opened in the past decade, and so its décor was rather lavish.
The four of them took a taxi from the hotel to the Youmiao Casino. Their outfits marked them at a glance as tourists, and before long a waiter acting as a guide came to receive them.
"You four are here sightseeing, I take it? So is it just for fun, or do you want to try your luck? If it's just for fun, I'd suggest playing the slot machines on the first floor and the like," the waiter introduced them warmly.
"Mm, we're here traveling, but money's not an issue. Exchange a good amount of chips for me!" Zhang Duopan said.
"Certainly, no problem at all. But I'll need the four of you to show some identification—a passport, or your local ID, something like that. I have to register your ages; by regulation, we're liable to a penalty if minors enter the casino," the waiter said.
"Oh, so much trouble!" Zhang Duopan casually pulled out his student card—luckily he always kept it in his wallet, and he had left his passport at the hotel. Then he said, "The four of us are all classmates. Looking at one should be enough, shouldn't it?"
"That works too..." The waiter nodded. So long as these people really were of age, there would be no problem. In truth, it was not as though someone checked every day; it was merely a precaution against the worst.
"Then exchange some chips for us!" Zhang Duopan produced a credit card and said.
"Certainly, sir!" the waiter said.
The four of them took their chips and went in to play. Meanwhile, over in the surveillance room, a man was looking at the registration data synced to his computer when his eyes suddenly lit up. He quickly picked up the telephone and dialed a number.
"Tu Feng, what is it?" A vigorous, powerful voice came through.
"Greetings, Sect Master Kun. As you instructed, I have been keeping watch on guests from Donghai City in Huaxia. Today there happen to be four guests, and one of them is from Donghai City!" Tu Feng was the manager of this casino and a core member of the Youmiao Sect.
The Youmiao Sect was a very large local gang, and the Youmiao Casino was naturally the sect's property as well. Its sect master was named Kun Cun. In his early years he had been a subordinate of a great priest in the Miaojiang region, from whom he had learned some gu sorcery and wicked mental techniques. After that great priest fell from power, he fled to this part of Southeast Asia and founded the Youmiao Sect.
It was only that one of his disciples, a man named Pu Huotai, had gone to Donghai City in Huaxia to temper himself, and afterward all word of him had ceased. After waiting a long while with no sign of the man's return, Sect Master Kun instinctively felt that something must have happened to him.
But because in those years the great priest had been eliminated by people from the mysterious Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau still had a warrant out for Kun Cun, he did not dare return to Huaxia in secret; he feared the Bureau of Investigation would move against him.
Yet there is no wall in this world that the wind cannot pass through. Moreover, Wei Zhao's killing of Pu Huotai had not gone entirely unnoticed back then—at the very least, there were those in the know over at the casino, and in the end the news still reached Kun Cun's ears.
What was more, he had already learned that the man who killed Pu Huotai was named Wei Zhao, a student at Donghai Engineering University. For that reason he had ordered his people to watch for guests from Donghai City—and all the better if they were students of Donghai Engineering University.
If any were spotted, they were to be seized at once so that their situation could be looked into. And if they happened to be acquaintances of that Wei Zhao, so much the better: they could be used to lure Wei Zhao to Southeast Asia and finish him off at a stroke.
"Oh? Is that so? Then do they have any connection to Donghai Engineering University?" Sect Master Kun asked at once.
"As it happens, yes. The one called Zhang Duopan is a first-year student at Donghai Engineering University. It's quite possible he knows this Wei Zhao!" Tu Feng said.
"Mm. Sound them out. If they know Wei Zhao, seize them and bring them to me at once!" Sect Master Kun ordered.
"Yes!" Tu Feng answered hastily.
After hanging up, Tu Feng went straight downstairs. The waiters passing to and fro all greeted him, but Tu Feng waved a hand, signaling them not to speak. Following the surveillance, he found Zhang Duopan and the other three with ease.
"Put it on 32. Thirty-two is bound to win!" Tu Feng said to Zhang Duopan, who was playing roulette.
"Really?" Zhang Duopan was taken aback to hear someone addressing him.
"Of course. I play here all the time!" Tu Feng smiled. "I'd say you're from Huaxia too, aren't you? So am I, heh heh!"
"Really? Is that so! Then I'll take your word for it this once." Though Zhang Duopan put his bet on 32, he was really just playing at random and knew nothing of calculating odds and the like. Since someone had spoken up, he gave the man a casual bit of face; otherwise he would have placed a bet at random anyway.
But what Zhang Duopan had not expected was that the number the roulette finally produced really was 32!
"Haha, how about that? I called it right, didn't I?" Tu Feng smiled faintly.
"You really did!" Zhang Duopan was overjoyed. "Elder brother, are you the God of Gamblers or something? Could you tell me what to bet on next time to win?"
"This one, let me reckon it up!" Tu Feng made a show of mystery and deliberated a while, then said, "27. Twenty-seven will do!"
"All right, I'll listen to you—27 it is!" Zhang Duopan bet on 27, only this time he put down a somewhat larger pile of chips.
To Tu Feng, such tricks were child's play. With a casual word he could have his men in the surveillance room alter the data, so whatever he said was whatever came out. The reason he had taken the trouble to say so much to Zhang Duopan was, in fact, that he did not want to seize someone at random inside the casino.
If he seized the right people, well and good; if he seized the wrong ones, it would damage the casino's reputation. After all, as the casino's manager, the first thing he had to consider was the casino's business interests!
