Chapter 2310 — Word Has Come

The Blossom Guardian

"Honestly, I'm just staying here one night on the off chance. If there's still no word by tomorrow, we'll let it go." Wei Zhao was merely comforting himself.

"Mm..." Sun Jingyan had more or less seen through Wei Zhao's thinking.

What surprised Wei Zhao, however, was that first thing the next morning, Local Guide came rushing back in a whirlwind!

"Brother, word has come, word has come!" Local Guide said excitedly.

"Oh? There really is word?" Wei Zhao was taken aback. Local Guide truly was a talent. "Where's the car?"

"It's no longer in the border town. The one who stole it is a local theft ring, and the man who did it is called Bird Three. He took it simply because your car had an out-of-town plate and had been parked behind this inn for a long time with nobody driving it, so he made off with it," Local Guide said. "Then he sold it for a hundred thousand to a drug-trafficking outfit called Red Conch. Word is it's already been driven to nearby Qingrun City to run drugs..."

"Qingrun City? Red Conch?" Wei Zhao's gaze sharpened, and he laughed coldly to himself. Red Conch again? Back when he was in Ruileida Town, Wei Zhao had wanted to cut into Red Conch, only for certain events to force him to leave Ruileida Town.

But who would have thought that on his very first day back in the country, his car would be taken by Red Conch's people? These bastards were really something. If Wei Zhao didn't go and make trouble for them, he would be doing their stolen car a grave injustice!

Toward Red Conch, Wei Zhao harbored a special hatred—not because they had opposed Feng Tianlong and kidnapped Feng Xiaoxiao, but because of Pangolin. This matter he had never been able to let go of!

The people and forces that had taken part in persecuting Pangolin had all been wiped out by Wei Zhao one by one—the secular Yu Family, for instance. Even with the hidden Yu Family backing them, Wei Zhao had said he would destroy them, and destroy them he did! And now, though Red Conch was only a branch force within the country and had ties to both the Fire Wolf Gang and the Tagan Family, so what? The Fire Wolf Gang, the Tagan Family—which of them had Wei Zhao not turned upside down and left in utter chaos?

So now that he had run into them, Wei Zhao naturally had no reason to let them off. What he had not expected was that Qingrun City was right near the border town.

"Yes, Qingrun City, just nearby. That's Red Conch's headquarters," Local Guide said with a nod. "Brother, the plate on your car seems a bit special. Their people seemed to recognize it right away—didn't even haggle over the hundred thousand, just bought it! But now that the car's gone there, getting it back will be troublesome, I'm afraid!"

Special? Of course it was special. Wei Zhao's car had been given to him by Feng Tianlong, and the plate belonged to the Mystery Investigation Bureau—Red Conch's sworn enemy. How could their people not recognize this car? Using a vehicle like this to transport drugs was obviously the best cover there was.

"I understand. Thank you for the information. Never mind the car—give me your account number and I'll transfer you two hundred thousand." Wei Zhao naturally told Local Guide he would drop the matter of the car, but he himself was never going to let Red Conch off easily.

Local Guide nodded. He also knew that once the car had left and gone to Red Conch's headquarters, even if Wei Zhao was a Yellow-Rank adventurer, there was no way he could plunge into the tiger's den. After all, the Red Conch organization had an expert at the peak of late Earth-Rank holding down the fort. A mere little Yellow-Rank like Wei Zhao would only be throwing his life away!

"Even though I dug up the information, it may not be of much use to you. Just give me fifty thousand—I can't rightly take two hundred thousand." Local Guide did business with integrity, and that was why he had endured so long in this line of work.

He had many repeat customers; it was never a one-off deal.

"Haha, then a hundred thousand it is." Wei Zhao did not insist on two hundred thousand, also because he did not want Local Guide to grow suspicious.

"Much obliged, brother. Shall I treat you to breakfast?" Local Guide had made a tidy sum and was quite happy.

"No need. We should be heading back too," Wei Zhao said.

"All right then, next time." Local Guide did not press the matter.

After transferring the money to Local Guide, Wei Zhao left the inn with Sun Jingyan and took a long-distance bus out of the border town.

Wei Zhao did not hail a car directly in the border town—that would easily rouse the suspicions of Red Conch's local forces. Local Guide might never betray them, but who knew whether Red Conch still had eyes watching this matter?

What Wei Zhao intended this time was to tear Red Conch's domestic forces out by the roots, giving them no chance to prepare or catch their breath.

"You've decided to move against Red Conch?" After getting off the long-distance bus, as the two transferred to a short-haul train and sat in the waiting room, Sun Jingyan asked, somewhat puzzled.

"Yes." Wei Zhao nodded. "Not for the car—for a friend. A friend who's dead."

"Ah..." Sun Jingyan was slightly taken aback. Seeing the sorrow in Wei Zhao's expression, she was curious, yet afraid of stirring up painful memories. She hesitated, then held back and did not ask.

"Curious, aren't you?" Wei Zhao glanced at Sun Jingyan and sighed with feeling.

"No. If anything happened to Wu Chengtian and me, you'd stand up for us the same way," Sun Jingyan said.

"Once we reach Qingrun City, find a hotel and check in. Act as if you have no connection to me. I'll handle the rest on my own," Wei Zhao said.

Qingrun City was a fairly large city. Though it was Red Conch's headquarters, they did not dare commit lawless acts openly, so Sun Jingyan would be safe enough staying in a hotel for the time being.

After Wei Zhao and Sun Jingyan took the train to Qingrun City, Wei Zhao immediately hailed a taxi and went with Sun Jingyan to a hotel to settle in temporarily.

"If you get bored, get in touch with Wu Chengtian and the others. We're safe now anyway. Next I'll go take care of business and come back for you when it's done," Wei Zhao said. "But don't worry, there shouldn't be any problems. It'll be much easier than Ruileida Town."

"Take both the Heaven-and-Earth Net and the Thousand-Silk Mask with you," Sun Jingyan said. "I won't have any use for them here."

"Fine. I'll take one Heaven-and-Earth Net and leave you one. As for the Thousand-Silk Mask, I'll wear it—handy for making sure no loose ends get left behind." Wei Zhao nodded and, without declining, agreed straight away.
