Chapter 1579 — Meeting Guan Xin Again

The Blossom Guardian

"How confident are you?" Yang Huaijun asked.

"If I can't break through before the Clan Gathering, then with my current strength at the late stage of the Profound Tier, the odds of victory are only about even. I've heard that Yu Shuixing is a formidable fighter at the very peak of the late Profound Tier," Wei Zhao said. He paused for a moment, then continued, "If I manage to break through to the Earth Tier in one fell swoop, however, my chances of winning will be one hundred percent — provided, of course, that the Hidden Yu Clan stays out of it."

"To be honest, your speed of advancement is remarkably fast. I remember when we first met you in Songshan City, you hadn't even broken through to the Profound Tier yet — and now you're already on the verge of the Earth Tier," Yang Huaijun marveled. "And Qiu Lingshan too... The rate at which the two of you climb in power is something the rest of us can only dream of catching up to."

"Brother Jun, you can do it too," Wei Zhao said with a smile. "Didn't I already tell you before? Let's head to the hospital shortly. I'll heal Wu Chengtian and Qiu Lingshan first, and then raise your strength."

"What? My meridians..." Yang Huaijun was taken aback. His own meridians had been damaged, and his strength had suffered so severely that recovery seemed impossible. If not for Wei Zhao's medicine keeping his injuries in check, he would have died of agony long ago. As for regaining his power — that was something he hadn't even dared to contemplate.

"They can be repaired," Wei Zhao said. "Chen Yutian was beaten half to death back then, and look at him now — he's perfectly fine, isn't he?"

"Eagle, you always manage to work miracles for us — you did before, and you still do now..." Yang Huaijun forced a bitter smile. "It's almost hard for me to believe."

"You'll believe it before long," Wei Zhao said.

"All right! But this time you've gone after the secular Yu Clan. What about the Hidden Yu Clan? How will you deal with them?" Yang Huaijun asked.

"I hope they don't interfere. But if they do, there's no choice but to face them," Wei Zhao said.

"Have you considered reaching out to Xiaoning?" Yang Huaijun asked.

"On this trip, I ran into Yu Bing." Wei Zhao deflected the question. "The one currently in charge of the Hidden Yu Clan is their father. Yu Bing has no say in the matter either."

"You ran into Yu Bing?" Yang Huaijun blinked. "Then what about you and Xiaoning..."

"Since when did you become such a busybody?" Wei Zhao said with a wry smile.

"Back then, you lacked confidence — you couldn't give her the stable life she wanted. But now, you can!" Yang Huaijun pressed on persistently.

"I certainly can. But do you think the Yu Clan would agree to this marriage given my situation now?" Wei Zhao shook his head. "I already have Tang Yun by my side, and Feng Xiaoxiao as well. Would the Yu Clan marry Yu Ning off to me as a concubine?"

"I seem to recall you once made quite a bold declaration — that you wanted the Yu Clan to send two girls to be your concubines?" Yang Huaijun said with a grin.

"Heh..." Wei Zhao shook his head. "Let fate take its course. Sometimes strength determines everything. If I had strength at the peak of the late Heaven Tier, then such a thing wouldn't be impossible."

"That's true. Among the noble clans and the Hidden Clans, strength really does decide everything!" Yang Huaijun nodded.

The car pulled up beneath the hospital building. Yang Huaijun and Wei Zhao walked together into the inpatient wing. Yang Huaijun made a phone call, and shortly a police officer came down to meet them.

The criminal suspect, along with Qiu Lingshan and Wu Chengtian, was housed in a confidential ward — not in the general ward. Ever since the Liu Bojia incident, the police had been far more rigorous in their control over criminal suspects.

Entering the private critical-care section, Wei Zhao noticed a number of police personnel standing along the corridor. Upon seeing Yang Huaijun, they each greeted him.

"Wei Zhao? Big Brother Yang?" A familiar figure stepped out of a ward carrying a tray. Spotting Wei Zhao and Yang Huaijun, she broke into a surprised and delighted smile.

"Xinxin?" Wei Zhao hadn't expected to see Guan Xin here. "You're still working at the hospital?"

The last time Guan Xin and Wei Zhao had talked, Guan Xuemin had arranged for her to study medicine under an old friend of many years — which meant she certainly couldn't keep working at the hospital. Yet here she was, still at the hospital.

"Yes, there's still some business at my teacher's home. I've heard his grandson is about to start university, so he has to get those matters settled first," Guan Xin said. "So I'm continuing to work at the hospital for now."

"I see." Wei Zhao nodded. "Go ahead and get back to work then. I won't keep you. I'm here to see a friend."

"All right!" Guan Xin nodded. She hesitated for a long moment before flushing and asking, "Before I leave... could I get in touch with you..."

In Guan Xin's mind, once she departed, it wouldn't be easy to run into Wei Zhao again. He was the first boy who had ever made her heart flutter. Though she knew she couldn't hold onto him, simply being able to see him often was enough to make her happy.

But if she left Songshan City, even this little scrap of happiness would be gone.

"Of course you can," Wei Zhao said with a smile and a nod. "Just give me a call!"

"Mm-hm!" Guan Xin's eyes lit up with excitement, but then she felt she had made too much of a scene. Flustered, she lowered her head and hurried away, forgetting even to say goodbye to Yang Huaijun.

"Wei Zhao, you really do seem to be quite popular with the ladies, don't you?" Yang Huaijun teased with a grin.

"Brother Jun, stop joking around. Speaking of which — do you have any plans to get married? You're not exactly young anymore," Wei Zhao asked.

"I have to follow my family's wishes. You know how it is — our Yang Clan isn't exactly flourishing in this generation, so we must find a suitable family for a political marriage..." Yang Huaijun smiled ruefully. "That means these matters are not mine to decide."

"Heh... Perhaps after this Clan Gathering, everything will change?" Wei Zhao said lightly.

"Oh?" Yang Huaijun paused in slight surprise. Wei Zhao's words clearly carried a hidden meaning, yet he declined to speak it plainly.

As they talked, the two stepped into the ward together. Qiu Lingshan and Wu Chengtian were sitting beside the bed, chatting. Both were cultivators; superficial wounds meant nothing to them — all that remained was rest.

Wu Chengteng was Wei Zhao's underling, and judging by appearances, Qiu Lingshan and Wei Zhao got along well, so the two of them had little trouble hitting it off.

"Are you two all right? I was busy with exams these past few days and couldn't come by." Wei Zhao glanced at Qiu Lingshan and Wu Chengtian's complexions — they still looked fine.

"You're the leader here, Wei Zhao, I'm perfectly fine. You have things to do — go ahead and take care of them. My internal injuries have already healed, and even if the external ones don't get treated, it's no big deal," Wu Chengtian said offhandedly. "This little bit of pain is nothing. Back when I was practicing Iron Hand Technique, every session left me covered in bruises!"
