Chapter 1197 — Misinformation from a Misunderstanding
Back at the orphanage, Wei Zhao passed Yu Xiaoke a few instructions on decocting the medicine and then took his leave. Xiaoyan's injuries were, in his eyes, a piece of cake — nothing to fret over at all.
Wei Zhao's next stop was to follow Er Goudan to find Yu Yuanyuan; today was destined to be a hectic one. With the medicinal liquid Er Goudan had brought, Wei Zhao could barely wait to get it into Tang Jucheng and Xiaofen — and it was the perfect chance to introduce his young brother Kang Xiaobo to his other young brother Er Goudan! As for Fat Lai, he had, in a manner of speaking, now formally earned Wei Zhao's recognition.
There was no need, though, for Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu to tag along to Yu Yuanyuan's, so Wei Zhao sent the two of them back to the villa first.
The Xiao family had shipped the Pi family's two top fighters off to the hospital, and back at the villa they lost no time in putting their heads together.
"Second brother, both of the Pi family's fighters have ended up in the hospital. We have to keep this under wraps — under no circumstances can our partners hear of it, or they'll start reassessing what the Xiao family is really worth!" Xiao Ji said, a note of worry in his voice.
"Keep it under wraps we must — but, big brother, you know as well as I do that there is no wall in the world the wind can't get through. This can be concealed for a while, not for a lifetime; sooner or later it will come out." Xiao Ben sighed. "Still, we're no worse off than most. Those two Pi family fighters may be no match for that hero, but at least they still keep the smaller clans in line!"
"That's true! All the same, I think we ought to strike at the Gu family while that hero is off making trouble for Wei Zhao! Otherwise, once Wei Zhao has recovered his strength and learns that our two Pi family fighters are lying in a hospital bed, we won't get anywhere!" Xiao Ji said. "I'd say we need to move fast on this!"
"Mm, there's sense in that. Here's what we'll do: Sister-in-law, you go scout out the Gu family's villa and see how things stand — whether that hero has managed to wound Wei Zhao." Xiao Ben nodded and gave the order.
"Me?" Gou Huli was a little spooked. What if she ran into the hero and he made trouble for her again?
"Yes — only you can go. Use the excuse of checking on the lion to feel out the situation," Xiao Ben said. "If we went, we hardly know those two girls of the Gu family, and some things would be awkward to ask."
"All right, then!" Gou Huli thought it over, set her jaw, and made up her mind. To bring the Gu family down, she was willing to take the risk!
Gou Huli stepped out of the Xiao residence, drew a deep breath to steady her nerves, and climbed into her Ferrari, setting off for the Gu family villa.
Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu arrived home to find the iron gate at the entrance mangled by Er Goudan, and didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Since the man was Wei Zhao's underling, they certainly couldn't make him pay for it — they could only foot the bill themselves and hire someone to repair it.
Back inside, there was no sign of Lion or General Weiwu. Shen Yushu was puzzled; she circled the villa once before spotting Lion out back in the storeroom, sound asleep.
"Damn it! You worthless lion — with your master away, you sneak off here to slack? Got a death wish or something?" Shen Yushu was fit to be tied. This lion really was hopeless — how long had she even been gone?
And already it had bolted off here to sleep the day away.
"Woof woof!" General Weiwu let out a couple of helpless barks.
"Xiao Shu, let it go. It's Lion's first day of training, and you've worn it out all morning. It doesn't have General Weiwu's stamina — of course it's tired now, and of course it needs to rest." Gu Mengyao came over, having more or less worked out what General Weiwu was trying to say.
General Weiwu was a Yellow-rank top-grade dog, but Lion was not; besides, Wei Zhao had no intention of altering it for the time being, plainly because he didn't trust its loyalty. So a Lion with not a shred of power to its name — wanting it to be anything like General Weiwu was simply out of the question.
"Oh." Shen Yushu thought about it and had to admit it was true, so she dropped the subject. "Fine, then — sleep. Training resumes tomorrow!"
The two of them were standing there, talking Lion over, when suddenly a voice drifted in from the villa gate: "Is anyone home?"
"Why is that old hag here again?" Shen Yushu recognized Gou Huli's voice at once, rolled her eyes, and stalked toward the front courtyard in no good mood.
Arriving at the Gu villa, Gou Huli first surveyed her surroundings and noticed that the iron gate had been wrecked — just as her own Xiao villa's had been. She felt a rush of delight: it looked as though that hero had found this place and come to blows with the Gu family!
If there had been no clash — if the Gu family had simply let him walk in peaceably — the iron gate could never have been smashed.
Moreover, the fight seemed to have been going on for quite some time; there was no sound of struggle inside now, so it must have ended. Emboldened, Gou Huli called out.
Shen Yushu reached the front courtyard, saw Gou Huli standing at the gate, and frowned in surprise. "What are you doing here now? Why can't you leave me alone, you old hag? Are you itching for me to demonstrate pulling your head off again?"
Gou Huli took the sarcasm straight on the chin and was so furious smoke nearly poured from her seven orifices — she was about to let rip, only to remember that she was here on an assignment. She naturally couldn't fall out with Shen Yushu; if she did, she'd get nothing out of her at all!
At that, Gou Huli had no choice but to swallow her rage. She forced an awkward smile: "If someone's head has been pulled off, how could they still be alive..."
"Right, they can't be alive — so what are you here for?" Shen Yushu had only just caught sight of that lazy lion and was already in a vile temper; now Gou Huli turned up as well. What good face did she have to spare?
"Ha — where's that lion?" Gou Huli hesitated a moment, then asked.
"Dead!" Shen Yushu already had a bone to pick with Lion, so at Gou Huli's question she simply answered the first thing that came into her head.
"Dead? Oh!" Gou Huli crowed inwardly. You treacherous dog of a lion — biting the hand that feeds you. Good riddance! Yet her face betrayed nothing as she said, "I see. And Wei Zhao?"
"Gone to the hospital. What exactly is it you want?" Gu Mengyao came over at that moment, her voice edged with impatience. Her opinion of Gou Huli was no better, and she had no wish to let her dawdle on the doorstep — she still needed to fetch Uncle Qing back to repair the gate.
"In the hospital?" Gou Huli's eyes lit up. Wonderful! Wasn't this precisely the outcome she had wanted? It looked as though Wei Zhao had been wounded by that hero and put in a hospital bed! Elated, she didn't linger a moment longer. Eager to hurry back to the Xiao residence with the news, she waved a hand at Gu Mengyao: "Never mind then — I'm off!"
