Chapter 907 — What About Me? What About Me? "What About Me? Then What About Me?" Shen Yushu came running in. "Sister Yaoyao, you're no fun — how could you forget me?"

The Blossom Guardian

Gu Mengyao was startled out of her wits by Shen Yushu bursting in so suddenly that she nearly leapt up from her chair! There was no hiding any of this from Xiaoshu, of course, but her nerves were strung tight just now, and to have someone come charging in like that frightened her half to death.

Gu Pengzhan did not know whether to laugh or cry. He had gone out of his way to avoid Xiaoshu, and still she had overheard.

"Heh, how could we forget you?" Gu Pengzhan said, smiling at his daughter's best friend. He knew Shen Yushu's temperament well enough — wild and giddy from morning to night — yet her bond with his daughter was a hopeless muddle of closeness, and if it could be managed, he supposed, the two of them would be sisters for life.

"I'm the little wife, aren't I, Sister Yaoyao? You promised me. Are you going to go back on it?" Shen Yushu had clearly heard every word that had passed between Gu Pengzhan and Gu Mengyao.

"When did I ever go back on anything?" Gu Mengyao said, caught between laughter and tears. "Buy one, get one free — I imagine that thing Wei Zhao would be delighted?"

Gu Pengzhan looked at his daughter and, finding no sign of reluctance in her expression, let out a breath of relief. "Xiaoshu, if you want to marry him and Yaoyao has no objection, then of course I have none. But the Chen family is a matter you will have to speak to yourself."

Gu Pengzhan was not a man of fixed, stubborn opinions. He was only an ordinary merchant, but for certain reasons he had come into contact with hidden clans and sects, even with beings of a higher order, and so he held no great objection to his daughter and Xiaoshu both marrying Wei Zhao; so long as his daughter was happy, that was enough. As for Shen Yushu's Chen family, that was for Shen Yushu to persuade; there he could be of no help.

"Oh? Really?" Shen Yushu was taken aback, and looked at Gu Pengzhan with some puzzlement.

She always spoke half in earnest and half in jest, and this time too she had used that tone with Gu Pengzhan, half joking, wanting to see where he stood. She had not expected him to be so composed, asking only for Gu Mengyao's opinion.

Gu Pengzhan smiled, said nothing, got to his feet and walked out of the room. To separate those two for a lifetime, he thought, was probably impossible; it was rare for two people to be so close. But Wei Zhao — that was still a problem...

Wei Zhao had a girlfriend at school. What exactly was his attitude? Gu Pengzhan found it hard to gauge...

It seemed his daughter had struck a little late. Wei Zhao had been in Songshan City barely more than a month, and already he had built his own web of connections — even Liu Tianyi obeyed his every word. His father had been right: Wei Zhao was a talent, and his future was beyond measure...

...

Zhen Dazhou stared in disbelief at his son, now turned into a eunuch, and at Ma Zhu, half his shoulder blown away! How could this be? Was not Ma Zhu a formidable hand at the eighth layer of the Golden Bell Shield, at the pinnacle of the Mystic Rank mid stage? How had he been beaten into this state?

Was not Wei Zhao merely at the pinnacle of the Mystic Rank early stage? The gulf between the two was enormous, and Ma Zhu had his divine art guarding his body — how could he have lost?

"Medicine King, how is he? Is there any hope of curing my son?" Zhen Dazhou was consumed with regret. If only he had not set his mind on dealing with Wei Zhao, had simply taken the money and released Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, none of this would ever have happened!

He could not accept it. And so, hard on the heels of his regret came a deep and bitter hatred. Wei Zhao — if I, Zhen Dazhou, do not kill you, then I am unworthy to live in this world!

"There is none..." the Medicine King shook his head. "They call me the Medicine King, but that only means my medical skill is high. Your son's balls were blown apart by a bullet. Unless I had the power to make a withered tree bloom and a dead tree bear fruit, that thing can never grow back!"

"Dad, I don't want to be a eunuch! I haven't had my fun yet, wuu wuu..." Zhen Yingjun burst into loud sobbing. In his heart he too hated Wei Zhao with a passion. Before, when Wei Zhao had made him a eunuch, he had been only a false eunuch; now he had become a true one!

Though all of this had been brought about by Shen Yushu, it was Wei Zhao whom Zhen Yingjun hated! Had Wei Zhao not wounded Ma Zhu, Shen Yushu could never have caught him off guard. So when all was said and done, it came back to Wei Zhao! He wanted Wei Zhao dead — deader than dead!

"Son, rest easy. I will cure you even if it costs me my entire fortune!" Zhen Dazhou said through gritted teeth. He had earned a great deal of money, but if his line was to end, what use was money?

When Zhao Qibing heard that Zhen Dazhou would spend his whole fortune to cure Zhen Yingjun, his eyes lit up at once. He knew that Zhen Dazhou had just wrung two hundred and fifty million out of Gu Pengzhan, and he coveted it fiercely! With that two hundred and fifty million in hand, the losses from the tower's collapse would count for nothing, and building a grand Qibing Tower would no longer be a dream!

At that thought, Zhao Qibing said to the Medicine King, "Medicine King, think of something else, will you? See whether Zhen Yingjun can be cured?"

"Well... let me consider it further, look through some references, and see if there is any good way?" The Medicine King knew that Zhao Qibing was loath to give up such a fine chance to make money, but for the moment he could not think of any way to treat Zhen Yingjun.

Though the Medicine King's whole purpose was to deceive, deception too required skill; one did not deceive at random. It was true that his patients grew sicker under his care — but the premise was that he cured one ailment and produced another. Zhen Yingjun's present condition left him rather at a loss.

Still, to make money for young Master Bing, the Medicine King felt he ought to think harder and see whether some plan could be devised.

"Very well, then I will trouble the Medicine King!" How could Zhen Dazhou know that Zhao Qibing and the Medicine King meant to keep fleecing him? He thought it was the familiarity of their recent dealings, a friendship grown up between them, that obliged the Medicine King to exert himself.

"Of course, of course..." the Medicine King nodded.

"By the way, Master Ma, what does the boss say?" Zhen Dazhou turned to look at Ma Zhu, who was in a wretched state now, his whole body swathed in bandages.

"The boss's side is nothing much. My master will send some fellow disciples over..." Ma Zhu trailed off, sorrowful. He was the youngest and most promising disciple of his sect; young as he was, he had cultivated the Golden Bell Shield to the eighth layer and was already an external-school hand at the pinnacle of the Mystic Rank mid stage, the hope of the entire sect.

And his master had stationed him at the boss's side, first to temper him, second to protect the boss — the boss, after all, brought the sect a great deal of profit every year. His master had once said that once his Golden Bell Shield broke through to the ninth layer, he could return to the sect and walk the world as its young sect master. But all that splendor had shattered in this one moment...
