Chapter 789 — Probing Guan Xin

The Blossom Guardian

Guan Xin looked up, only to find it was Kang Zhaoming and his crew again, and disgust welled up inside her. What Kang Zhaoming was after, how could she fail to see through it? But Guan Xin already had someone she liked, so nothing could ever happen between her and him!

Even though the man she loved already had someone he loved, even so, Guan Xin would never come to like Kang Zhaoming.

Much as she disliked them, professional duty would not allow her to ignore them. She was alone on duty in the nurses' station at the moment, so she had no choice but to get to her feet.

Guan Xin frowned inwardly. This Kang Zhaoming was clever enough. His last attempt to get close to her had failed, and this time he had cut his hand. Still, she had to treat him first. With fairly urgent external injuries, treatment generally came first and payment afterward.

"Let me take a look?" Guan Xin had no choice but to ask.

"Right here. Guan Xin, I have had the worst luck. A cold yesterday, and today I cut my hand. Hey, talk about rotten luck!" Kang Zhaoming held up his injured left hand as he spoke to her.

"..." Guan Xin glanced at the wound on Kang Zhaoming's hand and was left speechless. He came in to have such a tiny cut bandaged? Most people would just dab on some medicine or slap on a band-aid themselves. Why was Kang Zhaoming so delicate?

"What's wrong?" Seeing Guan Xin say nothing, Kang Zhaoming asked in some confusion.

Guan Xin still said nothing, certain in her heart that Kang Zhaoming was doing this on purpose. For all she knew, he had even made that cut on his hand deliberately! The thought filled her with anger. How could anyone be like this?

Guan Xin opened a cabinet, found a band-aid, and handed it to Kang Zhaoming. "Here, just stick it on yourself."

"Ah, I stick it on myself?" Kang Zhaoming froze in surprise.

"With such a small cut, how else do you expect it to be bandaged?" Guan Xin retorted.

"Well..." Taken aback, Kang Zhaoming had to admit she had a point. The cut really was rather small, and there was nothing wrong with Guan Xin giving him a band-aid.

"Then... could you help me with it?" Kang Zhaoming would not let pass any chance to get close to Guan Xin.

"Isn't your other hand perfectly fine?" Guan Xin frowned.

"Well... I'm the patient and you're the nurse. You ought to help me, right? It's not like I won't pay..." Kang Zhaoming said aggrievedly.

"Oh, consider that band-aid a friendly gift. No charge." With that, Guan Xin ignored Kang Zhaoming, turned back to her own desk, and went on reading her book by herself.

Kang Zhaoming had no choice but to stick the band-aid on the wound himself, all the while scheming how to draw Guan Xin out and ask what exactly her relationship with Xiaofen was.

That question was truly hard to broach. He had no idea how to raise the subject.

"Why haven't you left yet?" After waiting a while, Guan Xin found Kang Zhaoming still standing in her office and asked rather strangely.

"Oh... it's nothing. I was just thinking of leaving..." Kang Zhaoming laughed it off and said, "By the way, I came back yesterday looking for you, but I saw you with a girl whose legs didn't seem too steady, like you were going off to do something?"

"Oh..." Guan Xin answered with a meaningless murmur.

"Um... is she a friend of yours?" Kang Zhaoming asked carefully.

"What does that have to do with you?" Guan Xin had no idea what Kang Zhaoming was driving at.

"Uh... nothing..." Guan Xin's single sentence set Kang Zhaoming's heart pounding. He felt as if there was a double meaning in her words.

"What does that have to do with you?"

Was that tone a question or a retort? Could Guan Xin know about him and Xiaofen? Kang Zhaoming felt increasingly uneasy. Damn it, that little bitch Xiaofen was worse than useless. If she had really told Guan Xin about him and her, then he would truly have no chance left at all.

Kang Zhaoming was not much discouraged by Guan Xin's cold attitude. He had his own way with girls. When he had first gone after Xiaofen, she had been just as cold, and in the end had she not fallen madly in love with him?

So Kang Zhaoming was confident he could make Guan Xin fall for him, but the biggest obstacle was Xiaofen. If that loose mouth of hers blabbed about him and her to Guan Xin and put Guan Xin on guard against him, then he really would have no chance.

Once out of Guan Xin's office, Kang Zhaoming stamped his foot in frustration. "Did you two notice anything?"

"Young Master Ming, it seems like Guan Xin knows something?" Zhu Xiaozhang said.

"I feel the same. Why do I feel like there was something behind her words? Does she know about me and Xiaofen or not?" Kang Zhaoming was annoyed inside, yet he could not ask Guan Xin outright.

"Young Master Ming, I think Guan Xin probably does not know about you and Xiaofen yet." Wang Shubin shook his head.

"Oh? How so?" Kang Zhaoming started, then delight spread across his face.

"Young Master Ming, think about it. If Guan Xin knew about this, she would not treat you with mere coldness. She would loathe you. And when you first asked her about Xiaofen just now, if she really knew the whole story, she would not have just said 'oh.' She would have mocked you to vent her anger, wouldn't she?" Wang Shubin analyzed.

"That makes sense!" Kang Zhaoming nodded, his mind at ease at once. "Then it is easy to handle. As long as Guan Xin doesn't know yet, there's no problem."

"But Young Master Ming, we can't let our guard down. Even if Guan Xin doesn't know now, with more contact with Xiaofen she probably will. So we have to take steps as soon as possible!" Wang Shubin suggested.

"Yes, isn't that what we've been discussing all along? Do you have any good idea to shut Xiaofen up?" Kang Zhaoming was also worried that Xiaofen would talk recklessly. Until this was settled, it was simply a ticking time bomb.

"Young Master Ming, to be honest, if we want Xiaofen to keep quiet willingly, I think the only way is to give her a sum of hush money!" Wang Shubin hesitated before saying, "Xiaofen probably still broods over what happened back then. The harm, both physical and mental, was very serious. She must hate you to the bone, Young Master Ming, so only by giving her some compensation can we make her shut up!"

At the mention of paying, Kang Zhaoming felt a pang of reluctance, but Wang Shubin was not wrong. These days nothing was more solid than cash. To shut Xiaofen up, only money would do it, and the sum could absolutely not be small!
