Chapter 759 — Spare Him!

The Blossom Guardian

Yet the very fact that General Valiant had barked — and barked at the instant she stepped out of the car — was plainly the animal's warning to her! It did not want Gu Mengyao to set foot inside the villa, because danger lurked within!

Gu Mengyao was deeply moved and deeply grieved at once. General Valiant had kept her company through so many lonely days and years, and now it lay upon the floor beyond knowing whether it lived or died — though by the look of it, it plainly would not live.

In that instant Gu Mengyao's heart seemed to shatter. Tears burst from her eyes, and heedless of everything, she threw herself down onto the floor and gathered General Valiant into her arms.

"General Valiant, what is it? Don't die..." That feeling — as though she had lost one of her own family — left the young heiress utterly at a loss. In that moment she felt so helpless: she could only watch as General Valiant was beaten to death before her eyes, and there was nothing, nothing at all, that she could do.

"Who are you?" Uncle Qing knew how deep the bond between the young lady and General Valiant ran, and he too was furious. He fixed Yu Kun with a cold stare.

"You are Li Fu, aren't you? I have heard of you." Yu Kun knew he had been discovered, yet he was in no hurry to flee — because before an expert like Uncle Qing, himself a late-stage Yellow Rank fighter, escape would not come easily. Uncle Qing's rank was in fact a shade above his own, having reached the peak of the late Yellow Rank; but since Yu Kun was an inner-school expert and Uncle Qing an outer-school one, the older man's slightly higher rank did not amount to much in real strength — in practical terms the two were about even.

If they clashed head-on now, it was impossible to say who would fall; Yu Kun would not take such a risk, for it would very likely leave both of them gravely wounded. Before coming to the villa he had made a brief investigation of the people around Wei Zhao, and given how well informed the Yu family was, an expert like Uncle Qing could not possibly have escaped the Yu family's notice.

Of the experts among the common families, the Yu family had files on virtually all, and Uncle Qing was one of them.

"Who exactly are you? What are you doing here? And you dared to strike down Miss Gu's dog?" Seeing Gu Mengyao's grief, Uncle Qing had already resolved to detain this man.

"The Yu family. Yu Kun." At this moment Yu Kun did not grudge giving his name, for even if he concealed it now, Li Fu could afterward learn his identity from Fatty Lai.

And besides, if he did not reveal that he belonged to the Yu family, then judging by Uncle Qing's expression, the man would hardly let the matter drop. Yu Kun did not want a fight: he knew he could not beat Uncle Qing, and Uncle Qing could not hold him either — the only outcome of a hard clash would be mutual ruin.

"The Yu family? Yu Kun?" Uncle Qing was startled; he had not expected the man before him to belong to the Yu family. Naturally he knew of the Yu family's affairs, and his face could not help darkening. That colossus, the Yu family — not to mention a mere Uncle Qing, even Gu Pengzhan could not afford to provoke them!

"Li Fu, you are an outer-school expert at the peak of the late Yellow Rank, aren't you?" Yu Kun glanced at Uncle Qing and said mildly, "I am of the late Yellow Rank, inner school. You cannot hold me here."

"You — you mean to just walk away like this?" Uncle Qing found himself caught in a dilemma. If Yu Kun's strength was truly as he claimed, then Uncle Qing really could do nothing with him. Inner-school experts were always a little stronger than outer-school ones, and as things stood the two were evenly matched. And Uncle Qing, wary of his Yu family background, did not dare to strike rashly.

"And if I do?" Seeing Uncle Qing's hesitation, Yu Kun could not help but speak arrogantly.

Gu Mengyao's grief was beyond measure. The General Valiant in her arms seemed to stir, and for a moment she was seized with joy, her eyes wide — but the dog never moved again.

"General Valiant, please don't die, don't die..." Never once had Gu Mengyao imagined that General Valiant would one day leave her. She had dreamed that when she had children of her own, she would let General Valiant play with them, just as she herself had played with General Valiant in the beginning...

"Sister Yaoyao, don't be sad... Brother Shield may have a way?" Shen Yushu could see that General Valiant was breathing more than it drew breath, and knew in her heart that it likely could not be saved; but seeing Gu Mengyao's sorrow, she hurried to comfort her.

Shen Yushu herself felt wretched. Her bond with General Valiant was not as deep as Gu Mengyao's, but they had played together often enough, and she too had grown used to the dog's presence.

At the sound of the name Wei Zhao, a flash of resolute hatred passed through Gu Mengyao's beautiful eyes. She raised her head and said to Wei Zhao, word by word: "Wei Zhao, kill this murderer for me!"

"Heh. All right." Hearing the young lady's words, Wei Zhao nodded with perfect calm.

Standing to one side, he had long since recognized the black-clad young man before him as the very youth he had met that night of the auction, at the entrance of the pharmacy in Yanjing City. And when he heard his name, understanding dawned: so this was Yu Kun, the man who had once come looking for Fatty Lai!

Hmph — he had not gone looking for him, yet the man had come knocking at his own door. Wei Zhao was not one to stir up trouble, but when someone came bullying, he would never suffer it quietly either.

The Yu family, was it... Wei Zhao drew a deep breath. Very well, the Yu family — since you have crossed my path once again, then do not blame me for showing no courtesy.

"You came to steal my fragment map?" Wei Zhao walked toward Yu Kun, looked at him, and asked mildly.

"Steal? It was ours to begin with, the Yu family's. Even if you took it, it would do you no good." With Uncle Qing, Yu Kun still spoke with some wariness, but toward Wei Zhao he had not a shred of regard. The Yu family's files made no mention of Wei Zhao being an expert.

So he never once considered that Wei Zhao might be an expert. He was merely Gu Mengyao's bodyguard — how formidable could one of those be? At most he might be a retired special forces soldier or a Sanda fighter, nothing that could count as a true expert!

Even the Uncle Qing at Gu Pengzhan's side was only at the peak of the late Yellow Rank; surely the personal guard of a Miss Chu could not surpass Uncle Qing?

"What use is the fragment map?" Wei Zhao asked.

"You think I would tell you? Besides, I do not know either." Yu Kun looked at Wei Zhao with arrogant contempt.

"Oh. Then you have lost your value in existing. You may die now." Wei Zhao struck without warning, the aura around him unfurling in an instant.

"Xiao Yi, spare him!" Uncle Qing was aghast. He had not expected Wei Zhao to take Yu Kun's life on the spot over a few words, and, badly startled, he hurried to call out and stop him.

How could a member of the Yu family die inside the villa? Would not the troubles that followed be endless? How could Gu Pengzhan possibly cope? How could he ever be a match for that colossus, the Yu family?

"Peak of the late Yellow Rank...?" Yu Kun was startled by the aura Wei Zhao suddenly released, and he had barely gotten the words out when Wei Zhao's palm had already pressed against his chest, leaving him no chance even to dodge.
