Chapter 503 — Wu Chengtian's Plan
It was not that Wei Zhao's impression of Feng Xiaoxiao had improved; it was that she had been behaving very strangely of late. Out of nowhere, for no reason at all, she had suddenly confessed her feelings to him, and he had no idea what she was scheming in her heart. And now she had gone and told Feng Tianlong as well, which left Wei Zhao all the more puzzled as to what Feng Xiaoxiao was really thinking.
"Sure!" Never had Feng Xiaoxiao expected Wei Zhao to treat her to something to eat. She nodded happily and agreed.
While the two of them were talking, a Nissan Quest pulled into the parking lot of the Songjiang International Hotel.
Wu Chengtian, Kang Zhaolong, the Xiao brothers, and Wang Xinyan got out one after another. Xiao Wangba said in admiration, "Brother Chengtian is really something. This Songjiang International Hotel, I've only been here once or twice myself, and only for family gatherings..."
"Heh heh, what's so hard about coming here?" Wu Chengtian waved a hand with great swagger. In truth, although the Wu family was an ancient and venerable clan, it held martial arts in the highest esteem; every one of them was a first-rate fighter. But when it came to business, they were hopelessly ordinary. They did own a few enterprises, yet none of them amounted to much, bringing in only a few tens of millions a year. That, too, was why at auctions the Wu family could only stand and watch, rarely ever raising a bid.
In fact, not everything at the Songjiang International Hotel was expensive. The guest rooms, for instance, came in several grades: economy rooms, business rooms, deluxe rooms, presidential suites, and so on. An ordinary economy room cost only a few hundred yuan a night, whereas a presidential suite ran to tens of thousands a night!
The same held for the restaurant section. The first and second floors were ordinary dining halls, none of it very costly—a table for a meal came to a thousand yuan or so, and if you skipped the private rooms and ate a set meal in the main hall, a few dozen yuan would do.
But on the third and fourth floors, unless you laid out ten thousand or more, you could forget about eating there. And the top floor was even more outrageous—a single banquet cost upward of a million, all of it crafted from the choicest ingredients and cooked by internationally renowned chefs!
Naturally, every grade of floor had its own dedicated elevator, so there was no need to worry about diners of different stations running into one another and unpleasantness ensuing. That, too, showed just how formidable the hotel's resources were.
"That goes without saying! Brother Chengtian is a cut above the rest of us by far!" Xiao Wangdao likewise stuck up his thumb, fawning.
Wang Xinyan frowned. Fawning flattery of this sort disgusted her. She could not fathom how her father had taken a fancy to a playboy like this. A man of that kind—she could know him for ten years and still never come to like him.
Xiao Wangba was about to offer a few more words of congratulation, but when he looked up he saw that Wu Chengtian's expression was off, and he was taken aback. "Brother Chengtian, what's wrong?"
"Damn it, I've spotted that little punk!" Wu Chengtian clenched his fist, his gaze fixed on Wei Zhao not far off. He was seized by the urge to run over and give Wei Zhao a sound thrashing.
"Oh? Him again?" Kang Zhaolong was startled to see Wei Zhao as well. He had not attended the auction, so naturally he had no idea Wei Zhao had come to Yanjing too.
"Brother Chengtian, want the two of us to go teach him a lesson? Who's that little tart? Doesn't look half bad, does she?" Seeing that Wei Zhao was alone aside from a woman at his side, Xiao Wangba grew cocky at once. The Xiao family might have fallen on hard times, but a starved camel is still bigger than a horse; in the city of Yanjing, Xiao Wangba still would not put anyone in his eyes.
"Ah..." Wang Xinyan also let out a low cry. She stared at Wei Zhao in disbelief, wondering why on earth he should be here... Not long ago, she herself had phoned him...
"No need!" Wu Chengtian waved his hand. Xiao Wangba's earlier words had jogged something in him. The woman at Wei Zhao's side was obviously not Sun Jingyan—and since Wei Zhao was Sun Jingyan's boyfriend, here he was now tangled up with another woman! Heh heh, Wei Zhao's luck had run out. If he told Sun Jingyan about this, Wu Chengtian thought, would she still possibly stay with Wei Zhao?
Of course, in the eyes of these young playboys such things were nothing at all. Playing about with women—so long as your girlfriend never found proof, it simply blew over. But once it was dragged out into the open, it became a very big matter indeed.
"No need?" Xiao Wangba did not quite grasp Wu Chengtian's meaning. What a splendid opportunity this was, a perfect chance to put Wei Zhao in his place—why not take it?
"In a little while I'm going to treat them to a meal. You just play along, that's all. Don't say anything out of turn; whatever I say, follow my lead!" Wu Chengtian was no fool. If he went straight to Sun Jingyan and told her Wei Zhao had a woman on the side, she would certainly refuse to believe him—and would think he was simply fabricating tales.
Everything demanded evidence. True, he could snap a photograph and send it to Sun Jingyan, but a picture of two people talking at a hotel entrance proved nothing at all; anyone could run into an acquaintance and chatter for ages. Wu Chengtian was not stupid enough to use a thing like that as proof.
What he had in mind instead was to treat Wei Zhao to a meal. Then perhaps he would catch Wei Zhao and Feng Xiaoxiao in some intimate gesture. And if Wei Zhao happened to be cautious, then he would ply him with more liquor—sooner or later the drink would make him betray himself, and once that was captured on camera, Sun Jingyan would have no choice but to believe it!
The more he pondered this scheme, the more Wu Chengtian felt himself a veritable genius: slaying a man without leaving a trace, quietly setting a snare for his rival to walk right into.
"What? Brother Chengtian is going to treat him to dinner?" Xiao Wangba could scarcely believe his own ears.
"Right! In a bit, do me a favor—the moment he gets intimate with that woman, snap it with your phone!" Wu Chengtian instructed.
"Got it!" Xiao Wangba and the others nodded again and again. Only Wang Xinyan knitted her brows, unable to fathom what Wu Chengtian was plotting.
"Wei Zhao!" His instructions given, Wu Chengtian strode briskly toward Wei Zhao.
Wei Zhao had not expected to run into an acquaintance here. He turned and saw Wu Chengtian, and thought to himself: surely this brat has not swallowed his grudge and come looking for trouble?
"What do you want?" Wei Zhao gave him a glance, but his gaze came to rest on Wang Xinyan, not far behind Wu Chengtian. That left Wei Zhao all the more astonished: how was Wang Xinyan mixed up with the likes of Wu Chengtian? And beyond Wang Xinyan, Wei Zhao glimpsed yet another acquaintance—Kang Zhaolong!
"Brother Wei Zhao, I was terribly out of line just now, and I'm truly sorry!" Wu Chengtian gritted his teeth and, putting on a show of deep remorse, said to Wei Zhao, "My grandfather has already given me a dressing-down. I hope you won't take it to heart..."
"Oh, I haven't the time to take small fry to heart. I can't even remember your name." Wei Zhao glanced at him and waved a hand. "You're called Wu Tieshou, isn't that right?"
A flicker of anger crossed Wu Chengtian's face, but he quickly masked it. "Heh, my name is Wu Chengtian. You may also call me Wu Tieshou—after all, our family's whole discipline is the Iron Hand Art!"
