Chapter 353 — The Young Miss's Concern
Wei Zhao parked the car at the villa gate, then exchanged a word with Gu Mengyao. Since tonight's social engagement with An Jianwen had been nodded through by Gu Mengyao herself, she said nothing more about it.
As Wei Zhao reached the door, Gu Mengyao suddenly spoke up: "Don't drink so much, and don't go to those low places!"
"Huh?" Wei Zhao was taken aback; he hadn't expected Gu Mengyao to be capable of caring about anyone. The words were wrapped in an imperious tone, yet he could hear the concern threaded through them.
"Nothing. Suit yourself." Seeing Wei Zhao's astonishment, Gu Mengyao turned her head away and paid him no more mind. As for what An Jianwen intended to do, she had a vague guess. Though she seldom joined in the pastimes of these rich kids, she understood their methods well enough — especially with Shen Yushu around as her little spy, she was no stranger to the dirty business An Jianwen and his sort got up to.
This was one of the reasons Gu Mengyao had never felt anything for An Jianwen beyond the affection of a brother and sister. Gallivanting about day after day, drinking and whoring, and he wanted her to be his girlfriend? On what grounds?
"Ha, don't worry. I'm actually very well behaved." Wei Zhao smiled and turned to leave the villa.
"Brother Arrow-Brand, go teach those two a lesson! I'm cheering for you — you have to make a laughingstock of them!" Shen Yushu waved her fist.
"I'll do what I can." Wei Zhao nodded. Even if Shen Yushu hadn't said it, he had already been planning to teach that tiresome An Jianwen a lesson, so the man would stop pestering him day in and day out.
Only after Wei Zhao had left did Shen Yushu speak: "Sister Yaoyao, I've got huge news for you!"
"Oh? What did you overhear while you were out there?" Gu Mengyao had once again dispatched Shen Yushu as her spy satellite. Wei Zhao could spot her, but An Jianwen, probably not — and so everything An Jianwen had said earlier had been eavesdropped on clean through by Shen Yushu.
"Brother Jianwen and Brother Taizao said they're going to order Brother Arrow-Brand a chicken, then film it and mail it to your daddy, so he'll be ruined and you can break up with him!" Shen Yushu said.
"A chicken?" Gu Mengyao blinked. Order a chicken? Then it dawned on her that Shen Yushu meant the word in its other sense; she had taken it for a dish at a restaurant. Her face flushed at once: "Xiaoshu, don't use such an ugly word. They're called 'young ladies'!"
"Oh, all right, young ladies. They're going to find Brother Arrow-Brand a young lady!" Shen Yushu nodded. "Sister Yaoyao, do you think we should warn Brother Arrow-Brand in advance not to fall for it?"
"No need! If he's stupid enough to walk into a trap like that, it only proves he's too lecherous — and Daddy can simply fire him!" Gu Mengyao gave a cold snort, thinking An Jianwen truly vile. She wondered whether Shen Yushu's brother had once been the same as them.
When Wei Zhao stepped out of the villa, he saw that behind An Jianwen's Ferrari there was also a Porsche 911, and standing beside that car was Su Taizao — the very man he had run into at the amusement park restaurant that day.
Wei Zhao's impression of Su Taizao was not a good one. The fellow had been shouting and carrying on that day, which had rather put Wei Zhao off; but now the man wore a face full of smiles, and seeing Wei Zhao come out, he offered a thoroughly insincere greeting: "Mr. Wei Zhao, so very glad to see you! About that business with Brother An the other day — thank you!"
Wei Zhao waved a hand and paid him no heed, but An Jianwen came up to meet him: "Brother Lin, I never imagined you and Yaoyao would actually be in the same class!"
An Jianwen had already looked into the matter and learned that Wei Zhao was Gu Mengyao's classmate, so going by age he naturally addressed him as Brother Lin, which also carried a hint of intimacy.
"Ha... is that so." Wei Zhao nodded indifferently. "Weren't we going to eat?"
"That's right, we're heading over now! I've already booked a private room at the Starlight Splendor Grand Hotel — let's go!" Fearing Wei Zhao might not know the place, An Jianwen explained, "The Starlight Splendor Grand Hotel is one of the most luxurious hotels in this city. We used to go there often!"
"And they have special services too!" Su Taizao came over at this point and clapped Wei Zhao familiarly on the shoulder, wearing the look of one man to another, a matter of unspoken understanding.
"Is that so? Then I'll have to see it for myself!" Wei Zhao nodded, his face wearing the expectant look of a man who understood. Inwardly he sneered: Gu Mengyao had been right after all. These two were up to no good — they meant to set a trap for him!
Seeing that Wei Zhao neither refused nor showed disgust, An Jianwen breathed a sigh of relief, and Su Taizao was delighted as well. The only fear had been that he wouldn't agree; once he agreed, everything would be easy! There were entertainments aplenty — no fear he wouldn't enjoy himself thoroughly! But once the fun was over, he would have to pay a price too... heh heh!
"Let's set off now. Ride in my car?" An Jianwen pointed at his Ferrari and asked.
"No, I'll drive myself." Wei Zhao pointed at his beat-up van.
"This..." An Jianwen was startled. He hadn't expected Wei Zhao to turn down a sports car in favor of driving a junker. It was rather unexpected, but since Wei Zhao was willing, he said nothing more. "Fine too. Your own car is more convenient!"
An Jianwen and Su Taizao got into their car, started the engine, and drove off toward the Starlight Splendor Grand Hotel, with Wei Zhao following behind.
The Starlight Splendor Grand Hotel was worthy of its name as one of Songshan City's most luxurious high-end hotels, combining dining, entertainment, KTV, and a nightclub under one roof; its parking lot alone was as big as a *** field.
An Jianwen and Su Taizao drove into the parking lot, and Wei Zhao followed, only to be stopped by a security guard.
"Hey, deliveries go around to the back door!" The guard glared at Wei Zhao. "Don't you know the rules? You new here?"
"Deliveries?" Wei Zhao was startled, then realized the guard had misunderstood. He shook his head. "I'm here to eat."
"Eat?" The guard was taken aback for a moment, then burst out laughing. "You drove this junk heap here to eat? Do you have any idea what the minimum spend is here? One meal here would buy that rattletrap of yours! All right, quit making trouble and get out of here!"
"I really am here to eat." Wei Zhao had no wish to stoop to quarreling with a petty guard who judged a man by the car he drove, so he explained, "I don't care what the minimum spend is — someone else is treating."
"Someone's treating you? Who'd treat you? Come on, stop putting on airs and get lost. I've seen plenty of your kind — eight or ten a day, if not ten. Here to steal from the parking lot, aren't you?" The guard eyed Wei Zhao with contempt. "Who'd treat you to a meal? Only if they were brain-dead!"
This young guard, though his position was lowly, was a guard of the Starlight Splendor, and could not help feeling himself a cut above ordinary folk.
