Chapter 192 — The Brahma Sound Ring (First Update)

Chronicles of the Mystic Firmament Dao Page 2 of 2

The Brahma Sound Ring had risen to the fourth grade before; this tempering had not changed its grade, yet its power was not what it had been. It held three natures—fire, sound, and thunder. The fire was Golden Crow Fire, ranked among the top ten of fourth-grade flames; the thunder was fourth-grade Yang Sha Gang Thunder. The only regret was perhaps the Brahma-sound talisman array engraved upon the ring, which was only of the third grade. Otherwise this Brahma Sound Ring would surely have been a rare fourth-grade pinnacle treasure!

Even so, the present Brahma Sound Ring could absolutely be reckoned a fourth-grade upper-tier treasure.

Once a treasure reaches the fourth grade, its dharma-nature grows so greatly that finer distinctions are needed. Among fourth-grade treasures, the pinnacle grade is best—the finest, most outstanding of fourth-grade treasures. Below it come, in order, the upper, middle, and lower tiers. But natal treasures and spirit-consciousness treasures like the little pagoda stand above even the pinnacle.

A fourth-grade upper-tier Brahma Sound Ring, plus the natal spirit-consciousness treasure that was the little pagoda, plus the Yin Fire Pearl that could slay a Condensed Meridian cultivator in an instant, plus the third-grade talisman warriors Zuo Yan had not yet deployed...

Zuo Yan's confidence swelled to bursting; only now did he discover how many killing moves he held in his hand!

With such a perfect opportunity, how could Zuo Yan let these Black Wind bandits escape?

The little pagoda flew up into the sky and took command of the formation once more. Light and shadow shifted through the formation; the Brahma Sound Ring quivered faintly, and wave upon wave of chant spread out in all directions like the tide.

The Black Wind bandits within felt the scene around them change again. The pressure that had been faint and uncertain a moment before abruptly intensified. The unending chant seemed to sound right at their ears, and the intense numbness made them want, against their will, to halt their steps. It was as if a voice were murmuring desperately in their minds: "Sleep. Just sleep a little while..."

Their eyelids grew impossibly heavy; vigilance and caution were worn away bit by bit; their hearts grew quiet, and drowsiness thickened.

The Black Wind bandits knew well how fearsome it was. Fear filled every heart, and they could only circulate their spiritual power all the faster to withstand the chant that seeped in everywhere.

At last they understood: the longer they delayed, the worse it would be for them.

Almost as one, they unleashed their killing strikes!

Countless sword gleams and treasure lights shot up into the sky, all of them hurtling toward that blazing sun overhead!

This deathbed counterattack from the Black Wind bandits gave Zuo Yan a fright, and the smugness in his heart scattered at once. His poor little heart pounded pit-a-pat; had that strike been aimed at him, he feared not even a speck of ash would remain of him.

Dong!

The Brahma Sound Ring gave a violent shudder!

Golden light surged from the ring; the sound rolled like thunder, and the deep, solemn chant changed—like a Buddha's furious rebuke, fierce and sharp! The Black Wind bandits within felt their whole bodies jolt and the spiritual power in them run wild. Every face changed, and when they looked up, their faces turned ashen. Countless gang thunders, each the size of a fist, came rolling down along the hanging filaments like so many beads.

The great formation ran at full power, its aspect stern and majestic; a domineering, absolute aura spilled out on every side, bearing the force that grinds all things to dust—nothing could withstand it.

Zuo Yan stared, dumbstruck, his tongue clicking in amazement. What ferocity! The Brahma Sound Ring's counterattack was in no way inferior to the "Moon Chime Shattering Sound" of the Sword Trial Assembly!

The chant raged like wrath; the gang thunder fell like rain!

The Black Wind bandits were scared out of their wits. These fist-sized gang thunders might not match the force of Zuo Yan's own use of them, but they were true Yang Sha Gang Thunder! The domineering chant had not yet faded, their spiritual power was still in chaos, and the gang thunder arrived at precisely that moment!

For a time, screams and curses filled the air without cease.

The slaughter was grievous! After a single strike, fewer than thirty Black Wind bandits were still standing. Many lay in pools of blood, wailing and groaning; those still on their feet were every one of them despairing, their eyes full of terror.

Utterly domineering!

Even as Zuo Yan marveled, his heart ached: the golden light and lightning upon the Brahma Sound Ring had clearly dimmed a great deal. He hastily raised his hand and called the ring back—another round like that and the ring would be ruined. And even if not ruined, its grade would surely fall.

He had finally come by a fourth-grade upper-tier treasure; how could Zuo Yan bear to let it be ruined?

Besides, these remaining brigands, their will to fight utterly gone, had no need of the Brahma Sound Ring at all.

He and the little pagoda could handle them!

The harvest was about to begin. He turned his gaze back into the formation, his eyes burning, rubbing his hands together. The little pagoda, joined to his mind, was eager too, quivering with excitement.

Just then, Pu Ling suddenly emerged.

"Wait."
