Chapter 362 — A Matter of Perception

Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2

A faint flush crossed the royal capital scholar's face. He struggled for a moment, then spread his hands. "Forgive my bluntness, Lord, but if that is what you want, you should find a farmer to write it, or a odd-job servant..."

"Then there really would be grammatical errors," Gao Ji said mildly. "Mr. Godwin, it seems you are not suited to this work. You may go."

The royal capital scholar named Godwin gave a slight twitch of the face and shifted his feet a little. He agonized in that posture for several seconds, and at last bent low before Gao Yang once more, his tone heavy and conflicted. "I am sorry to have disappointed you. That was not my intent."

After Godwin Orlando left the study, Amber's figure gradually emerged from the air behind Gao Yang.

Gao Yang did not turn around. He merely said mildly, "This scholar's file."

"A member of the royal capital's 'Grammar Society' and 'Historical Records Society,' with considerable achievements in literature, history, and heraldry. He is among the more renowned of this batch of royal capital scholars. To come to the southern frontier he gave up his prospects in both academic associations and a highly paid consulting post. The reason was his enormous curiosity about the Cecil frontier—and his curiosity about you personally. As I said just now, he studies history."

Gao Yang mused. "...Studies my history?"

"You could roughly put it that way," Amber curled her lip. "Everything that happens in this land counts as 'historical reenactment' to him—at least, that is surely how he sees it himself. Here he is like a fish in water, getting exactly what he wished for—except for that stumble over the newspaper."

Something stirred in Gao Yang's heart, and a thought came to him: if this historian truly studied the development of the Cecil territory in its present form, and the words and deeds of "Gao Yang Cecil" since the lifting of the coffin lid, and used it all as reference material to fill the gaps in the history books, then his historical research would be utterly ruined...

Then he shook his head, flung the wild association from his mind, and murmured softly, "Such people are useful. It was not easy for him to come to the southern frontier."

"His situation is not uncommon among this batch of scholars from the royal capital," Amber nodded and went on. "Though they have already entered the various departments and for the most part adapted well, on the other hand they are at odds with the 'new order' of this land. Scholars are a very particular group. Unlike craftsmen and artificers, they possess knowledge, a mature and stable logic of their own, and they are usually very proud—most scholars also command some knowledge of the extraordinary fields, or are themselves low-tier extraordinaries, and that too is the capital of their pride."

"But these people who command knowledge must become a strength for Cecil," Gao Ji said mildly.
