Chapter 144 — The Mana... Capacitor
Blade of Dawn Page 2 of 2
"You're a knight—where did you get this mountain of magical theory!" Amber stared, then looked with disbelief at the array plate and crystals in Gao Yang's hands. They weren't assembled yet, and many key runes and control arrays were still missing, but it was clearly not far from completion. "This thing... does it count as a magic device? And yet it still seems like just a component..."
"Exactly, still a component, just a rather important one. With it, I've completed the most important link in my plans: how to solve the problem of mobile energy supply when there's no fixed magic-net feeding power," Gao Song smiled. "I intend to name it a mana capacitor. What do you think of the name?"
"Mana capacitor?" Amber blinked. "What does that have to do with electricity? Are you planning to use it to fire lightning bolts?"
"Er... right, I hadn't thought of that," Gao Yang said, thinking it over seriously, then rephrased. "Then I've decided to force the name mana capacitor on it anyway."
Amber: "...You can even do that!?"
Seeing Amber struck dumb, Gao Yang felt immense delight, and in fine spirits he lowered his head to find the stack of drafts he hadn't finished calculating, meaning to continue working out the several difficult problems regarding the honeycomb magic-net unit's power output and charging efficiency. But he had barely begun when he suddenly heard a clamor from outside.
"I'll go see what's going on!"
Tossing out those words, Amber vanished from before Gao Yang in a puff: whenever Gao Song wrote, she was sure to get dizzy trying to follow it, and at a time like this she was only too glad of an excuse to run.
But she had barely been gone a short while when she came rushing back in a flurry: "Gao Yang! Gao Yang! Sir Byron is back!"
"He's back?" Gao Shao set down his pen at once. "Send him in, quick!"
Sir Byron entered the tent. Several days of continuous exploration in the ruins had left him looking quite worn, and altogether travel-stained, yet the expression on the knight's face was plainly one of high excitement. The moment he came in he gave Gao Yang a knight's salute, then spoke in a voice trembling with fervor: "My lord! We've discovered a hidden area in the ruins—it may well be the secret testing ground of the old Gondor Empire! Not only are there many intact instruments, equipment, and supplies inside, but... but we've also found a small number of manuscripts and documents that are still legible!"
