Chapter 378 The Fall of the Gods
The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 2 of 2
Shen Mu shook his head and walked over to Mu Qingdai to examine her body. "It is not that my talent and comprehension have no equal in this age, and forging a primordial spirit at the Six Harmonies realm is hardly an astonishing feat—little sister Yuxiu has forged one too. It is not difficult. Yuxiu and I forged ours in a vague, muddled way, and then it left our bodies."
Long Yu was speechless and shook his head.
Wang Muran said solemnly, "The Sixth Princess of Yankang has also forged a primordial spirit? Yankang truly is not to be underestimated. With so many young experts in that kingdom, if we stay holed up in the Little Jade Capital, complacent in our own ways, we really may fall behind the times!"
A hidden worry took root in his heart. The Little Jade Capital possessed a great many divine arts—take any one of its peerless techniques into the wider world and it would suffice to found a school. But the reform and transformation in Yankang were sweeping like a blazing fire. The Law changed, the Way changed with it, and divine powers would evolve in their wake. If the Little Jade Capital could not keep pace with the reform, it would surely be eliminated.
Just as Shen Mu, dual-cultivating with the Sixth Princess Ling Yuxiu, had forged a primordial spirit at the Six Harmonies realm—this was one of the omens of the changing Law.
Shen Mu and Ling Yuxiu had not yet realized what a momentous impact and shock their innovation would have upon the world of cultivation. If they could discover the pattern behind forging a primordial spirit and spread it abroad, they would be worthy of the title of Grand Masters—their standing in the history of cultivation would surely stand shoulder to shoulder with State Preceptor Xuan Kang, or even surpass it!
State Preceptor Xuan Kang's creation of the other three basic sword moves had likewise been an omen of the changing Law, and had secured his achievement as a Grand Master.
But forging a primordial spirit at the Six Harmonies realm was of greater importance still than the three basic sword moves. It would benefit all practitioners of divine power—the cultivation and strength of every realm, from Six Harmonies and Seven Stars to Heaven-Human, Life-Death, and Divine Bridge, would all be vastly enhanced!
Wang Muran set out his views to Shen Mu. Shen Mu was taken aback for a moment, then said, "I had not thought of that... but what you say makes a great deal of sense. When I return to the capital, I will talk it over with little sister Yuxiu—perhaps we can find the pattern."
With the Azure Empyrean Heavenly Eye, he looked through Mu Qingdai's body inside and out, detecting every hidden malady, and immediately refined a spirit elixir for her to take.
Mu Qingdai felt a little shy under his gaze, thinking to herself, "He is a divine physician, he is a divine physician..."
Then she heard Physician Qin muttering: "A woman's body seems to be built differently from a man's—they do not have that thing down there, so how do they pee..."
Mu Qingdai's face flushed crimson on the spot, and she glowered at him.
Shen Mu hastily went to examine Long Yu's wounds, and a long while later at last healed the injuries on Long Yu and Wang Muran.
The Dragon Qilin sidled over and said sheepishly, "Chief, what about the swords in my body..."
Over a dozen flying swords were still stuck in it.
Shen Mu shot it a glance and sneered, "Is my hair still mussed?"
"Every strand is in place! Wait—this one strand is out of place..."
The Dragon Qilin had just extended its long tongue when Shen Mu reached out, flicked his sword finger—pft, pft—and over a dozen flying swords burst out of the Dragon Qilin's body all at once, blood gushing in torrents.
The Dragon Qilin shrieked.
"Go on, lick me then!" Shen Mu said viciously.
Even so, he took out bottle after bottle of dragon spittle, poured it swiftly into the wounds, and circulated his primal qi to squeeze out the stagnant blood and seal the injuries.
The Dragon Qilin said fawningly, "Chief, I rendered great service this time—so about the meals..."
Shen Mu ignored it and went to the great deer. The deer was far worse off than the Dragon Qilin—more than twice as many flying swords were stuck in its body, and it had been rubbing itself in the Dragon Qilin's spittle.
Shen Mu shook his head. First he set the great deer's bones, then fetched over a dozen bottles of dragon spittle to stanch the bleeding, and only then pulled out the flying swords one by one.
Wang Muran, much recovered, ran over, picked up the antlers, and stuck them back on the great deer's head.
"Little master, the antlers are on backward," the great deer reminded him.
"Oh!" Wang Muran hastily pulled them out, bringing a spray of blood. The great deer cried out in pain. Wang Muran hurriedly reversed the antlers, pushed them back in, and begged a bottle of dragon spittle from Shen Mu to sprinkle over the wounds.
Shen Mu went on treating the other flood dragons as well. After bustling about for a long while, suddenly the sky outside turned a blinding white, then plunged into a murky darkness, and then brightened once again.
Everyone rushed to look outside. The torrential rain had ceased abruptly, and a perfectly straight rift had opened in the sky, as if a giant sword had split the heavens in two!
"What is this..." Shen Mu's heart shook violently, and he murmured, "The Sun-Shooting Divine Cannon..."
From the riven sky, red streaks suddenly began to fall. Shen Mu raised a hand to catch one—then his face changed dramatically and he flung himself aside.
The red streaks pattered down before the palace. Wherever they landed, flowers burst into bloom across the hills and fields, and grass and trees shot up wildly.
Divine blood fell from heaven, like the bitter weeping of the sky above.
A god had fallen.
